Beauty trumps service at this lovely restaurant in Georgetown, Penang, Malaysia.

It didn't really matter to us how long it took to get our light meal at Sarkies, I was enjoying the cooling ocean breeze at our table on the terrace. We were successfully served our English Breakfast tea and it was refreshing after an afternoon walking through Georgetown's colonial heart. We hardly noticed an hour going by.
This is
Penang's venerable Eastern and Oriental Hotel's restaurant and the ambiance is great, the same ambiance no doubt felt by Charlie Chaplin, Herman Hesse, Somerset Maughn among other clients nearly a century ago.

Today, the service might be slow (though friendly enough), and the chef may have lost the order, and my husband's Mulligatawny soup which he requested non-spicy may have arrived enriched with chillies, but all is forgiven. Both dishes, when they finally arrived, were flavourful and hearty. My ginger and carrot soup, which I traded for my husband's spicy soup, was superb. Beauty and taste trumped service this time. I trust they'll get things straightened out another day. And besides, with apologies, management knocked twenty percent off our bill.
Though it sounds odd, Maturetraveler will be back... provided I'm not in a rush.
